Job Description: Football Operations and Player Personnel

Position Overview: As a key member of the Professional Football League’s management team, the Football Operations and Player Personnel role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects related to player personnel, talent evaluation, and football operations. This critical position requires a deep understanding of football strategy, player scouting, and team management. The role involves working closely with team owners, coaches, and other league officials to ensure the success and competitiveness of the League.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Player Evaluation and Recruitment:
  • Lead the player evaluation process, including scouting potential players, conducting tryouts, and assessing talent at various levels (college, free agents, international).
  • Collaborate with team coaches and scouts to develop a comprehensive player evaluation system, ensuring consistent and objective assessments.
  • Maintain a database of player profiles, performance metrics, and injury histories to facilitate informed decision-making during player acquisitions.
  1. Player Contracts and Salary Cap Management:
  • Oversee contract negotiations with players, agents, and team representatives to ensure fair and mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with league salary cap regulations and other contractual obligations.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, player market values, and labor relations to effectively navigate player contract negotiations.
  1. Roster Management:
  • Assist teams in managing their rosters, including player signings, releases, and trades.
  • Collaborate with team owners, coaches, and general managers to develop roster strategies that balance player performance, team needs, and financial considerations.
  • Provide guidance on building competitive teams within the framework of league rules and regulations.
  1. League Rules and Compliance:
  • Stay up to date with league rules, policies, and guidelines related to player personnel and football operations.
  • Educate teams on rule changes, player safety initiatives, and best practices in compliance.
  • Ensure that teams adhere to league guidelines regarding player conduct, eligibility, and any other player-related requirements.
  1. Talent Development and Support:
  • Assist in the implementation of programs and initiatives to support the development and growth of players, both on and off the field.
  • Collaborate with coaches, trainers, and other stakeholders to provide resources and support systems that enhance player performance and well-being.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive culture within the League that promotes player development, career longevity, and overall success.
  1. League Operations and Game Management:
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of league operations, including scheduling, logistics, and game-day protocols.
  • Collaborate with officiating, game operations, and other relevant departments to ensure smooth game operations and player safety.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and competitiveness of games, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Extensive experience in football operations and player personnel management, preferably at the professional level.
  • In-depth knowledge of football strategy, player evaluation techniques, and team-building principles.
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements, salary cap management, and league rules and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess player talent and potential.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities to engage with players, agents, and team representatives.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including team owners, coaches, and league officials.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the values of the League.
