Future Opportunities: Applications for Summer 2026 will be accepted December 1, 2025 – February 28, 2026. Submissions outside this window cannot be considered.

Program Mission

The Professional Football League’s Internship Program serves a dual purpose:

• Supporting academic institutions by providing structured, hands-on learning experiences that complement classroom education
• Creating pathways for recent graduates to gain valuable sports industry experience in a professional league environment

Eligibility Requirements

• Academic Standing: Junior/senior undergraduate students or current graduate/law school students
• Academic Performance: Minimum 3.0 GPA required
• Recent Graduates: Must have completed degree requirements within one year of application
• Location: All internships based at PFL headquarters in Independence, MO
• Time Commitment: 12 hours weekly (remote work options available)

Application Requirements

All candidates must submit:

1. Cover letter including contact information and department preferences (maximum 3)
2. Current resume
3. Recent academic transcript (unofficial accepted)
4. Three professional references with complete contact information
5. Response to one essay prompt (650-word maximum):
   • Option 1: Professional athletes and other celebrities are often idolized by the public, especially young children. Many think this requires that they behave as role models at all times. Do you agree or disagree?
   • Option 2: Businesses and individuals are choosing online or electronic communications rather than face-to-face interactions. Are there significant advantages or disadvantages for a business or person to limit their communications in this way?

Program Structure

• Duration: Summer term (specific dates provided upon acceptance)
• Hours: 12 hours per week
• Compensation: Unpaid professional development opportunity
• Housing: Not provided by the league

Departmental Opportunities

Communications

Develop content for league digital platforms, support media relations, and assist with visual asset management while gaining exposure to sports communications strategy.

Executive

Work alongside senior leadership on cross-departmental initiatives, league operations, and strategic planning while developing high-level business acumen.

Information Systems

Support the technological infrastructure of a professional sports organization through help desk operations, equipment management, and technology implementation.

Consumer Products & Strategy

Engage with licensing partners across apparel, non-apparel, and digital categories while learning the fundamentals of sports merchandising and brand management.

Marketing & Business Development

Contribute to multi-platform marketing strategies that enhance the league’s brand presence and support partnership activation initiatives.

Partner Services

Assist in managing relationships with league sponsors, ensuring proper implementation of player rights, and supporting partnership activation strategies.

Player Services

Help maximize player marketing opportunities through brand development, appearance coordination, and player engagement initiatives.

Engagement & Digital Marketing

Support player outreach efforts, website management, content creation, and digital strategy implementation.
